NJIT New Student Orientation 2.0

Hey Highlanders! We are excited to see you again for NSO 2.0, part two of your NJIT orientation. NSO 2.0 is all about getting to know your NJIT community. At this program, you will get to know your First-Year Seminar, YWCC 107, or MGMT 190 class. On Day 1, you will be doing a service project in Newark and attend an on-campus program - start time will depend on your first-year seminar affiliation.

• Learning Community classes & YWCC107 sections 001 & 003 - check in at 8:00 am.
• All other classes - check in at 9:30 am.
• NOTE: Honors College students must attend the Honors College Retreat on Thursday instead.

The day ends with a festival called Highlander Fest from 6-10 pm. On Day 2, the schedule will begin with the Academic Assembly at 10 AM (check-in begins at 9 am) and we will finish the day by 5:00 PM. The schedule for both days will be based on your first-year seminar affiliation.

FAQs

Do I have to attend New Student Orientation?

• New Student Orientation is required for all incoming freshmen. It is the only way for you to receive the information you need to begin at NJIT, giving you the best start possible at the university. Many instructors will count this as absence for the First Year Seminar course (you are only allowed two absences). While NSO can excuse you from the program, this may still count as an absence.

I can't attend this program - can I make it up?

• No. This program is experiential in nature (meaning it is an experience rather than just informational) and cannot be made up.

Do I have to stay overnight?

• NSO 2.0 is not an overnight program. The program sessions go until the evening and begin on Day 2 at the time designated on your schedule for your affiliation. Move-in for residents is the day before on August 29 (or earlier for those attending NSO 1.0 that week). If you are a commuter, you will be able to go home and must come back in the next day, or make arrangments to stay with a friend on or near campus.
  

What are my transport/parking options?

• Please park in the Parking Deck on Summit Street (enter at Colden and Warren Streets). No parking pass will be needed. You may also take the light rail to Warren Street/NJIT which stops right at the campus. Use the NJ Transit Trip Planner or Google Maps to find the best route using public transportation.

Where do I check in?

• On Day 1, please check your schedule for check-in location, which will either be at the Wellness and Events Center (WEC) or the Campus Center Ballroom. Peer Leaders will help direct you to the check-in site. On Day 2, check into the Wellness and Events Center (WEC).

What should I bring?

• Comfortable clothes and shoes to wear. A Service Day shirt will be provided to you on the day on August 30.
• For Day 1, please bring water and wear sunblock as you will be actively participating in community service projects.

What if I require specific accommodations?

• We will make reasonable accommodations for medical, disability, dietary, or religious reasons. Please note that dietary needs are restricted to standard menu catering and vegetarian food - we are unable to provide kosher or halal-specific foods due to the size of the event. All accommodations can be indicated using the Eventbrite registration form.
